UNESCO invites qualified students to apply for the 2014 UNESCO Internship programme. The purpose of the programme is to offer selected graduate and postgraduate students in a field related to the work of UNESCO the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments and to enable them to gain a better understanding of UNESCO’s mandate and programmes. The duration of an internship generally ranges between 2 and 6 months.
The programme also allows students of bilingual secretarial schools/technical institutions to gain practical experience in an international Organization.
Eligibility:
  • Students must be enrolled in a graduate or post-graduate degree program in a university or equivalent institution at the time of application.
  • Applicants pursuing their studies in a country where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages must have completed at least 3 years of full-time studies in a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
  • Applicants must be undertaking studies in areas related to UNESCO’s fields of competence (namely, education, culture, sciences, communication and social sciences) or in other areas which support UNESCO’s work (such as law, human resource management, management studies, international relations, etc.)
Criteria:
  • Languages: An excellent knowledge, both written and spoken, of at least one of UNESCO’s working languages (English or French). A working knowledge of the other language is an asset, and may be required of candidates for internships in secretarial/assistant assignments at Headquarters.
  • Computer skills: Ability to use computer systems, email and office-related software (MS Office).
  • Attitude: An awareness of the many facets of a multicultural world and a commitment to international public service are essential.

About Scholarship
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) a publicly funded, self-governing organisation of the institutions of higher learning in Germany, promotes international academic exchange as well as educational co-operation with developing countries through a variety of funding and scholarship programmes. DAAD cooperates with ANSTI by offering a number of in-region scholarships to African Students for Postgraduate – Masters and Ph.D degrees.

Selection Criteria and Eligibility
Participants in the programme must be from ANSTI member institutions and may not exceed the age limit of 36 years by date of nomination. Applicants may not apply for studies in their home countries.
Fellowships, which cover fees, subsistence and international travel, are awarded to staff of ANSTI member institutions for postgraduate studies (M.Sc. or Ph.D) at African universities for staff development.
Fellowships are awarded to sub-Saharan African nationals for studies outside the applicants’ home countries.
Applicants must also meet the following criteria:
  • Applicants must hold a good bachelors degree (at least 2nd class upper division).
  • Applicants must obtain official admission to the host university prior to his/her application for the fellowship

Duration of Scholarship: The initial award of the fellowships covers one year. Extension is possible up to two years for Masters courses or more for Ph.D studies upon successful completion of previous year.

The National Instruments proudly present the 2014 NI Innovation Design Competition for Young Entrepreneurs in Africa to make their ideas a reality. The goal is to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship among future and recent engineering graduates in Africa and to submit market-ready projects that support the sustainable development of the local community.
Through the Planet NI program, NI will provide selected student teams access to it’s development platforms to design prototypes and solutions that meet local challenges in Cameroon, Nigeria, and Uganda. NI will offer tools, training, and consulting to help turn value-added ideas into functional prototypes using the NI myRIO embedded hardware platform and NI LabVIEW system design software.

Deepak Gupta and his wife Sunita have generously created an endowed scholarship fund targeted at students from emerging markets.
Their intention is to help build human capacity and to create economic and social value in the most economically challenged regions of the world. Outstanding candidates with limited financial means will be granted scholarships and the fund will enable INSEAD to continue to attract diverse candidates onto the MBA Programme. One or two significant awards will be granted in each class.

Eligibility:

2014 TEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics for African Scientists

Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) is glad to invite suitably and
interested qualified African Scientist to apply for the 2014 TEG
Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics at the
London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (LSHTM).
This fellowship, which is funded by the UK Medical Research Council
(MRC), provides support for two years training in medical statistics.
For the first year the successful applicant will study for the MSc
degree in Medical Statistics at the London School of Tropical Medicine
and Hygiene (LSHTM). This will be followed by a one-year professional
attachment at one of the African centres associated with the research
programme of the Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM. During the
professional attachment, Training Fellows will develop their statistical
and research skills by working on studies with guidance from TEG staff.
This support is intended to foster excellence in the field of medical statistics and epidemiology in sub-Saharan Africa.
Benefits:
The fellowship will provide
  • costs for fees,
  • stipend (£14,000 per annum)
  • return air travel.
Eligibility:
Candidates must;
  • be resident in and a national of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
  • be in possession of an excellent first degree with a background in mathematics, statistics or a related subject
  • have at least 1 year of work experience in medical statistics or epidemiology
NB: Support will not be given as a supplement to other funding, nor to students who have funding from other sources.
